Website launch provides easy access to information about human rights in Caribbean Netherlands

As of April 1, 2026, residents of Bonaire, Statia, and Saba can officially file a discrimination complaint with the National Institute for Human Rights. This development marks an important milestone in the implementation of the equal rights legislation that entered into force on 1 January 2026.

Individuals who believe they have been subjected to unequal treatment—for example in employment, education, or in the provision of goods and services, may now submit a complaint with us. We can assess complaints independently and, where appropriate, offer mediation to help find a solution.

Filing a complaint is straightforward— it can be completed by following the instructions provided on our newly launched website.

Later this year, Legal Desks/Lokèt Hurídiko will open across Bonaire, Statia, and Saba, offering accessible legal advice and practical support—not only for discrimination cases, but also for matters such as housing, family law, and employment disputes. They can also assist with submitting discrimination complaints to us.
