During their visit, they explored several of Saba’s historic and monumental sites and met with Commissioner of Culture Mr. Eviton Heyliger and Executive Assistant Jayaira Windfield-de Groot. They also engaged with members of the Working Group for Monuments on Saba, including Lukas van der Steen (Senior Policy Advisor – Infrastructural & Spatial Development), Shaigan Marten (Culture & Education Policy Advisor, Department of Community Development & Culture), and Sharifa Balfour (Director of the Saba Archaeological Center Foundation / Saba Heritage Center).
Discussions focused on the upcoming pilot project for the restoration of the island’s monuments, marking an important step toward preserving Saba’s built heritage.
The visit also included a tour of the Saba Heritage Center's exhibition, offering a deeper appreciation of the island’s rich history and vibrant culture.
