Saba Aces return to Saba following Florida Classic

After participating in the Florida Classic, the Saba Aces netball team returned to Saba today, welcomed by Acting Island Governor Shamara Nicholson, Commissioner Bruce Zagers, families and friends.

The team traveled last week to Miramar, Florida, marking their first participation in an international netball competition. On day one of matches, the Saba Aces delivered an impressive performance, finishing second in their pool and securing fifth place overall in the Under-16 standings. For their second day, the team ultimately placed fifth overall in the U16 category while competing against teams from the United Kingdom, the United States, Trinidad and Tobago, and Jamaica.

Additionally, the team earned first place in the Skills Challenge and was awarded second place for Best Dressed Team.

“We are extremely proud of our girls and the hard work they have put in to represent Saba on an international stage,” shared parent Shanoine Marten.

The Saba Aces, led by Coach Tevonille Dunchie, have been diligently training and fundraising across the island to make their participation possible. After being unable to attend last year due to limited funding, their determination and community support made this year’s achievement even more meaningful.

“Dreams don’t become reality by chance; they become reality through courage, hard work, and the belief that you and your team are capable of greatness,” said Dunchie. “We also did our part to promote our island by handing out memorabilia and educating others on what Saba has to offer.”

The Saba Aces extend thanks to Public Entity Saba and all other sponsors and supporters who helped make this possible.
