PES attends Week of Crisis Management in The Hague

From June 2 until June 5, representatives from Public Entity Saba attended the fifth edition of “Week van de Crisisbeheersing” in The Hague, organized by the Ministry of Justice and Security and the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations.

During this week, crisis representatives from Saba, Sint Eustatius, St. Maarten, Bonaire, Aruba and Curacao, together with the aforementioned Ministries and the Ministry of Defence, and a variety of crisis partners, convened. Public Entity Saba’s Head of Public Order and Safety, Walle Bos, and Advisor on Crisis Management and Public Order and Safety, Shalini Bisram, attended the event.

The theme of this event was “zelf- en samenredzaamheid” (self-sufficiency and co-dependence). Activities ranged from interactive workshops to presentations by various representatives from different ministries, as well as from crisis partners such as the Urban Search and Rescue Team.

These activities included an exercise that outlined the crisis structure within the Kingdom of the Netherlands and how both the European and Caribbean parts need to work closely together to manage a crisis accordingly. During a workshop on logistics in times of crisis or disaster, participants were able to experience different dilemmas that can occur in such a situation. Participants also discussed the changing landscape of risks that they can be confronted with, such as the impact of climate change and digital threats, and way in which they can prepare.

This event strengthens and solidifies the commitment of all partners, as they continue their joint work to enhance crisis management in the Caribbean part of the Kingdom.
