Infrastructure and Spatial Planning Department Continues Community Engagement

Over the past month, the Department of Infrastructure and Spatial Planning (ISP) has been actively engaging with the community to gather valuable feedback for upcoming housing plans and ideas for the Bottom.

Following the Bizzy B 5K on November 8, representatives from ISP spoke with residents about what improvements they would like to see in the Bottom. The event resulted in many valuable conversations and helped highlight shared priorities among members of the community. Suggestions ranged from adding green and shaded spaces to improving traffic and creating new walking paths. The results of the survey will be used for future community involvement activities within this project. Community members who wish to share their ideas can still do so by completing the online form before December 1st through the following link: Community Feedback Form.

Additionally, last week, ISP, along with colleagues from Legal and the Community Development & Culture Department, hosted a community meeting focused on upcoming housing measures. Landlords and tenants were invited to provide input on three main topics:

  • Rent Committee:
An independent body to guide and mediate between landlords and tenants on rental matters such as rental agreements, rent levels and increases, repairs, service costs and termination of rental agreements.
  • Rent alleviation:
Structural support aimed at supporting lower-income renters on the private market, with landlords receiving the full rental amount.
  • Housing Valuation System:
A tool designed to determine fair rental prices based on a home’s quality and size, which will apply to most everyday homes but not short-term, luxury or shared accommodation.

The meeting provided an engaging discussion and valuable insights into the issues that matter most to tenants and landlords. This feedback will help refine the housing measures, so they work in Saba’s context.

Community participation remains essential as work continues on both improving livability in The Bottom and developing the new housing measures. Residents are encouraged to stay involved, share their ideas, and reach out to the ISP team with any questions or suggestions via planning@sabagov.nl.
