Farewell Visit of Director-General Roald Lapperre to Saba

On Thursday, August 21, 2025, Director-General of the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations, Roald Lapperre, paid his farewell visit to Saba as his tenure in this capacity comes to an end on September 1, 2025.

Upon his arrival, he was received by Island Governor Jonathan Johnson. Mr. Lapperre was accompanied by his advisor, Sophie Ter Vrugt. 

During his program on Saba, Mr. Lapperre first met with Island Governor Johnson, followed by a meeting with the Executive Council consisting of Governor Johnson, Commissioners Bruce Zagers and Eviton Heyliger, and Island Secretary Bram Streppel. During this meeting, Commissioner Heyliger received the decree for Saba’s Slavery Past Action Agenda, which focuses on major projects designed to acknowledge Saba’s history and strengthen its cultural heritage. Mr. Lapperre also met with members of the Island Council and the Island Registrar. 

The Public Entity Saba extends its sincere gratitude to Mr. Lapperre for his dedication, commitment, and the valuable contributions he has made throughout his years of service. His efforts have greatly supported the people of Saba and have strengthened the cooperation between Saba and the Netherlands.

As Mr. Lapperre prepares to assume his new role as Secretary-General at the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security and Nature on September 1, 2025, we wish him every success. We look forward to continuing to build on the strong foundation he has helped lay, further enhancing the relationship between Saba, the European Netherlands, and the wider Kingdom of the Netherlands.
