Weather Update: Heavy Rainfall and Thunderstorms
The remnants of Tropical Storm Dolly are passing over the island this morning, bringing heavy rainfall and intense thunderstorms. These conditions may continue through Monday afternoon, with total rainfall of 1 to 3 inches (25 to 75 mm) expected.
Heavy downpours may cause flash flooding and increase the risk of rockslides, falling rocks and debris on the roads.
Residents are asked to stay off the roads where possible.
Even after the rain eases, residents should continue to exercise extreme caution on the roads. The heavy rainfall may leave hillsides unstable, and rocks or debris could fall onto the road after the rain has stopped.
If you must travel, reduce your speed, remain alert and do not drive through flooded sections of road. Road conditions may change quickly.
Due to the risk of intense lightning, residents are advised to unplug electronic equipment.
A Small Craft Advisory is in effect due to rough sea conditions with windgusts >= 34 kt.
As of this morning, no new travel updates have been provided by Winair or Makana Ferry. Persons scheduled to travel today should contact the airline or ferry service directly for the latest information regarding their trip.
