Trail Closures: Mount Scenery Tower Project

Due to the ongoing helicopter operations for the Mount Scenery Tower Project, additional trail closures have been implemented.

Trail Access

  •  The trail to the Communication Tower and Windwardside Lookout is closed for the duration of the project.
  • During helicopter operations, the Mt. Scenery Trail is closed from the last rest shed/Bud’s Mountain junction upward.
  • During helicopter operations, the Elfin Forest Trail is closed from the Elfin Forest Junction on the Sandy Cruz Trail upward.
  • When helicopter operations are not taking place, hikers may access the summit and Hell’s Gate Lookout only.
  • All other trails in the Saba National Park remain open.

Safety Notice

The public is reminded to not enter closed areas or bypass barriers and warning signs. Helicopter operations involve suspended loads, strong downdrafts, and other hazards that may cause serious injury or death.

As a general rule: if the rope and closure signs are in place, the trail is closed. Do not proceed beyond the closure point. If helicopter operations are cancelled or no flights are scheduled for the day, the rope and closure signs will be removed as soon as practicable.

We ask everyone on the trails to please pay attention to the posted signs, and follow instructions from the site manager and relevant authorities.

Please note that restrictions and operational schedules may change at a short notice, depending on safety requirements.

Thank you for your cooperation.
