Over the past several years, the Public Entity Saba has been taking steps toward recognition of Emancipation Day, observed annually on July 1st, as an official public holiday. We are therefore pleased to share that the Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment (SZW) has recently granted approval for Emancipation Day to be formally recognized as a public holiday as of 2027.
In recent years, PES and members of the business community have already observed this important day by closing government offices and private businesses in commemoration. Although the official recognition will take effect in 2027, we believe it is still valuable for us as a community to continue honoring and recognizing the significance of this day this year as well.
We therefore warmly invite and encourage all organizations and businesses on Saba to join us in this observance by granting staff the day off and allowing them the opportunity to participate in the activities and celebrations planned for the day. Emancipation Day is a moment for reflection, shared stories and unity.
The primary and secondary schools will also be closed, thereby encouraging learning and participation of our young people for this event.
Join us on July 1st for activities and events that help us form closer connections, and share moments of reflection.
We hope that everyone can join us as we commemorate this occasion.
