Weather Update: Tropical Storm Erin

Tropical Storm Erin remains on track to pass north-northeast of Saba as a Category 2 hurricane. Residents are advised to prepare for potentially adverse weather conditions this weekend.

 

According to the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI), Erin is currently projected to pass approximately 168 miles (270 kilometers) north-northeast of Saba at around 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 16. At this time, there is a 15 to 20 percent chance of experiencing tropical storm-force winds, which is slightly lower than the previous forecast of 20 to 25 percent. The probability of hurricane-force winds remains very low, estimated at 1 to 3 percent.

 

Forecasts continue to indicate strong winds at Force 6 levels, with gusts between 35 and 45 miles per hour (50 to 75 kilometers per hour). Strong thunderstorms are likely during this period. Moderate to rough seas with northeast swells are expected, along with rainfall amounts ranging from 1 to 3 inches (25 to 75 millimeters).
