The Executive Council of the Public Entity Saba would like to inform the public of the following volunteer vacancy:

Search & Rescue Crew Member

The context

Saba is looking for crew members for its Search and Rescue (SAR) organization. The brand-new SAR-boat is expected to arrive on the island in November 2025. As a crew member you will be part of a new professional Search and Rescue organization. Crew members are expected to be available to sail within 15 minutes after an alarm goes off: 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

We are looking for motivated volunteers (M/F) who feel called to help and save people. For this year’s training schedule we are looking for three individuals and plan to recruit and train four additional crew members in 2026.


What do we ask:

  • Socially skilled and a team player.
  • Available for on-call duties (availability during office hours on weekdays is a plus).
  • Minimum age of 18 and maximum age of 45 upon registration.
  • An average of 20-24 hours per month is expected to support the SAR organization (deployment in case of an incident, maintenance and training).
  • Physically healthy and stress resistant.
  • Willing to take courses like First Aid, Maritime Radio Communication and to regularly participate in trainings and exercises.
  • Affinity with nautics and rescue related activities.
  • Commitment to be a volunteer for the SAR organization for at least 2 years.
  • You cannot be employed by any other emergency services, as not to impact the operations and capacity of our emergency partners such as the Police, Fire Department and Hospital.
  • In possession of a swim certificate.
  • Medical and/or physical check.

  • A monthly compensation of maximum 150 USD for amongst others SAR deployment, training, maintenance and phone allowance.

Selected crew members are expected to be available for training on Curaçao “fast rescue vessel operating course” in the period from September 1st to 11th and for training “Search and Rescue” on Saba and Sint Eustatius in the month November.
