Public Entity Saba invites interested participants to join the Slaughter Hygiene Training, taking place Monday, July 7 through Friday, July 11, 2025.
This full-week training is designed to strengthen knowledge and skills around hygienic practices in animal slaughter, meat processing, and post-mortem inspections. Participants will gain both theoretical understanding and hands-on experience to ensure meat safety and quality.
Optional — If you cannot attend all week, you have the option to select which day(s) you are available and what topic is of most interest to you. The training consists of full-day trainings and all classes will begin at 8:30 a.m.
Monday, July 7 — Tourism Office:
Theory session covering hygiene principles in meat processing and handling, proper slaughter practices, and the fundamentals of post-mortem inspections.
Tuesday–Friday, July 8–11 — Starting at Tourism Office, followed by Butcher Station
Practical training at the butcher station, applying hygiene and inspection techniques on-site. Participants will practice full post-mortem inspections, including external and internal examination of the animal, identifying signs of abscesses, infections, parasites, and other health concerns. The training will focus on inspecting the eyes, skin, organs, intestines, and overall carcass condition.
This training is open to all who work or are interested in strengthening slaughter practices, and is a valuable opportunity to improve standards of food safety and animal health on the island.
All participants will receive a certificate, based on the training days they attend.
