Construction Materials on Public Roads

The Public Entity reminds property owners, contractors, and construction companies that they are responsible for cleaning up any construction-related materials, or materials in general, left on or spread across public roads that may cause an obstruction or safety hazard.
To help keep public roads accessible and safe, please take note of the following:

Responsibility of the Owner
  • The owner is responsible for all materials placed on the public road in connection with construction or renovation works on their property.
Responsibility of the Company, including Contractors and Construction Companies
  • Companies are responsible for keeping the public road clean and safe during and after construction activities and not causing hindrance.
  • This includes cleaning any sand, gravel, or other materials that fall or wash onto the road during unloading, construction work, or vehicle cleaning.
  • Materials stored on public roads must be properly covered and secured when not in use, particularly during rainfall, to prevent materials such as sand or gravel from washing onto and down the road.
  • During transportation, materials such as sand or gravel must be properly covered to prevent spillage onto public roads.
Public Assistance

Members of the public are kindly requested to report any instances of sand, gravel, or other construction materials on public roads, especially where they pose a traffic or safety hazard. Reports can be made by calling 911 so the situation can be addressed promptly.

All parties involved are urged to be mindful of their responsibilities and to take the necessary measures to ensure public roads remain clean and safe for all road users and that they cause no hindrance. If not, it may result in, for example, enforcement measures being taken.

We appreciate your attention and understanding.
