Recognizing the cultural and historical value of Saba’s traditional architecture and landmarks, the Public Entity has requested support from the Dutch Cultural Heritage Agency (RCE) to assist with this process. The expertise of the RCE will support the development of the selection criteria, the creation of the local monuments committee, the identification of a shortlist of buildings, and prepare the necessary documentation to guide informed decision-making.
This initiative stems from the joint Cultural Agenda, which has been collaboratively developed over the past two years and identifies the creation of a monuments list as a key action item. The Cultural Agenda also emphasizes the importance of recording the island’s biography, Saba’s collective story, and preserving its tangible and intangible cultural assets.
The community will play a central role in shaping this process. As such, all interested residents, building owners, users, and stakeholders are warmly invited to attend two Town Hall Meetings where the project will be introduced, and all stakeholders will have the opportunity to ask questions, give suggestions and feedback.
The dates and times for the meetings are:
Date: Wednesday July 9, 2025
Location: Eugenius Johnson Center, Windwardside, Saba
Time: 6pm
Date: Thursday July 10, 2025
Location: Queen Wilhelmina Library, The Bottom, Saba
Time: 5:30pm
Before the RCE presents their role in the process, the meeting will open with an introduction by the Public Entity, emphasizing the importance of local voices and involvement.
Together, we aim to ensure that this process is locally rooted and beneficial for Saba’s people.

We look forward to working hand in hand with the Saban community in preserving the island’s heritage - one cottage, one story, one monument at a time.
