The visit began with an introductory session at the Department of Public Health and Sports, where Dr. Vivas was acquainted with the department’s structure, key programs, and ongoing health initiatives. This meeting offered insight into the local health context and priorities, laying the groundwork for future cooperation.
Following this, Dr. Vivas was formally welcomed at the Administration Building by Acting Governor Shamara Nicholson and Acting Island Secretary Michelle van Duin. Together, they discussed opportunities for tailored public health support, including community-based healthcare, data-informed decision-making, and disaster resilience.
Dr. Vivas emphasized PAHO’s commitment to ensuring that small island communities such as Saba receive the resources and support necessary to build strong, accessible, and equitable health systems. The Public Entity, in turn, expressed appreciation for PAHO’s continued engagement and outlined key areas for potential partnership in the years ahead.
