Saba Delegation Participated in CTO Caribbean Week in New York, Explores Membership Opportunities

Commissioner and Portfolio Holder of Tourism Bruce Zagers and Director of Tourism Courtney Hassell represented Saba at Caribbean Week in New York, the Caribbean Tourism Organization's (CTO) premier annual tourism event, held under the theme "One Caribbean: Infinite Experiences."

The event provided an opportunity for Saba to strengthen its ties with regional tourism partners and learn more about the benefits of membership in the Caribbean Tourism Organization.

During the week, Commissioner Zagers and Director Hassell met with CTO Secretary-General and Chief Executive Officer Dona Regis-Prosper to discuss the organization's work in supporting tourism development across the Caribbean, membership opportunities, and how Saba could benefit from increased engagement with the regional body. Membership in the CTO offers benefits in areas such as sustainable tourism development, tourism research and market intelligence, regional advocacy, and professional development opportunities for tourism professionals and industry partners.

In addition to these discussions, the Saba delegation took part in workshops, and networking events. Caribbean Week brings together tourism ministers, commissioners, directors, industry leaders, travel partners, media representatives, and other stakeholders from across the region to discuss trends, share experiences, and explore opportunities for collaboration.

Commissioner Zagers reflected on Saba's experience attending Caribbean Week and the insights gained from the event. "Participating in Caribbean Week provided us with valuable insight into the benefits of regional collaboration and the important role the Caribbean Tourism Organization plays in supporting tourism development across the region. It gave us the opportunity to learn from the experiences of other Caribbean islands in growing and promoting their destinations, and gain access to resources and expertise that can help strengthen Saba's tourism sector. Overall, it was a worthwhile experience, and we look forward to exploring the next steps towards becoming a member of the CTO.”
