The commander of the RNLM, Lieutenant-general Annelore Roelofs, visited Saba accompanied by the commander of the National Tactical Command brigade-general Jos Pieters, Deputy Brigade-commander in the Caribbean major Marcel de Groot, Head of Operations captain Luuk van de Ven and Senior Advisor mr. Hans Trip.
Topics that were discussed touched upon border security, the Makana ferry connection to the island, as well as cooperation with the Royal Marechaussee and other security partners on Saba.
The delegation provided an update that there are currently 15 new recruits being trained in the Netherlands, of which two recruits are from Saba.
This is a part of a plan to strengthen the presence of the RNLM in the Caribbean Netherlands which will come in to effects in the next couple of years.
The visit was concluded with a presentation and a visit to both the current Fort Bay harbor and the building site of the new Black Rocks Harbor.
