Public Entity Saba and ZJCN Unite to Promote Preventive Health and Active Lifestyles

On Wednesday June 11th Public Entity Saba and the Caribbean Netherlands Department of Health Care (ZJCN) recently held a strategic meeting aimed at improving public health on the island through prevention and the promotion of healthy lifestyle choices.

Present at the meeting was Commissioner of Public Health Eviton Heyliger. The discussions centered around the importance of investing in preventive health care, encouraging healthy living across all age groups, and building stronger community-based wellness initiatives. Both parties reaffirmed their shared commitment to creating a healthier Saba through long-term, sustainable partnerships.

As part of the outcomes of the meeting, it was agreed that the Public Entity Saba Public Health Department will begin exploring opportunities to develop and expand outdoor fitness activities and wellness programs. These initiatives are aimed at increasing physical activity among residents and making greater use of public spaces to promote well-being.

“Preventive care and healthy lifestyle promotion are key pillars in the ongoing effort of shaping the future of public health on Saba,” said Commissioner Heyliger. “We are committed to working with our partners to empower the community to make positive choices and live healthier lives.”

Other key areas discussed during the meeting included:
•    Development of outdoor fitness programs through OLS
•    Promotion of healthy lifestyles across all age groups
•    Community outreach and early health education
•    Strengthening local partnerships in health promotion

These discussions are part of an ongoing effort to align Saba’s public health strategy with regional and national goals for the Caribbean Netherlands.
