Emergency Operations Center to be Renovated and Upgraded

Saba’s Emergency Operations Center, located in the Fire Department building in The Bottom, serves as a central hub for the Eilandelijk Beleidsteam (EBT) to convene during a crisis or disaster situation.

The EOC is housed within the Fire Department Building, which is operated by the Brandweerkorps Caribisch Nederland (BKCN) on a daily basis.

The EOC currently requires some much needed renovation to enhance its functionality and effectiveness as a central meeting space during a crisis or disaster. The renovation work is scheduled to start after the summer. Renovating the EOC aligns with Saba’s broader goals as outlined in the Policy Plan Disaster Management Saba 2023–2027, which emphasizes the need to invest in a well-equipped facility. Among the planned improvements are enhanced acoustics to support clearer communication during meetings, as well as upgraded workspaces and facilities to ensure emergency personnel can perform effectively under pressure.

To make the most efficient use of the limited available space, a part of the Fire Department Building will be upgraded. These improvements will allow for the creation of office space for the Public Entity Saba, without compromising the operational needs of the Fire Department. The continued functionality of BKCN remains a priority throughout the process.

Close cooperation between the BKCN and the Public Entity Saba is essential to ensure the success of the renovations and upgrade. Due to the building’s ongoing use, the work will be carried out in phases. The first phase is scheduled for completion by 1 June 2026, just ahead of the next Atlantic hurricane season. This phase will result in a newly renovated EOC and a dedicated meeting room for Public Entity Saba.
